A Day Late - But Not A Penny Short

My own personal female ride day: 188 km round trip. The weather forecast called for sun, the radar showed clear so where did the big black clouds come from?

So, when I stopped (Tichborne, ON) to take a photo of the looming sky ahead I realized why I didn't see anyone else outside. Moments after taking my helmet off I was swarmed by a cloud of blood thirsty black flies. From there it was on to Sharbot Lake then Perth with the mandatory stop at "Timmys", Westport and home again ... I followed the same dark cloud most of the way. There were a few sprinkles but luckily nothing to cry about. The temperature was a little less than expected so I tried out the heated grips once again (just for comforts sake)

  1. Westport - one of my favourite small towns. Must go there for a ride this summer. Nice pictures.

  2. Hey Canajun - it's one of my favourite spots too and though I've ridden there so many times today was the first time I noticed the watershed dam at the foot of the mountain. Just proves there's always something new to see.

  3. Ah, this is how dry roads must look like. Only got 80km out of today's ride because of the wet stuff, but at least I got riding.

  4. SonjaM - I was certainly lucky the black clouds just threatened and didn't really follow through.

  5. That's the way it is, supposed to be sunny? Nope, clouds... sorry. In fact, it's what I'm dealing with right now, it's bright and sunny outside right now, and it was supposed to rain... so here I am, at the computer.

Glad to see you're out representing the more graceful of the sexes, even if it is a day late.

  6. Glad you made it with only some sprinkles. It was nice that the "black cloud" did not open up while you were on the road.

  9. Brady - it's been nothing but blue skies the last two days - where'd that come from ... and Bob if you ever make it to the not coast (shores of Lake Ontario) Westport is just one of those little "destination" towns you'll have to check out. Watch for an upcocming visit to Picton (another destination spot in "the County."

I finally had a chance to google Westport, ON. A long time ago we rented a car and drove from Toronto to Quebec City. I know we went through Smith Falls on the way to Ottawa where my uncle was working, at that time. I just love those backroads and small towns

  11. Bob, your comment got "squashed" in the blogger shut down yesterday - so I've copied and pasted -

Last years route home took me from Quebec to Kingston to Ottawa and I agree, the eastern townships are gorgeous and so are the back roads of Ontario

  12. How do you like those heated grips? Are they hard to install?

  13. Nico'Thom - I love my heated grips, they make riding in 5 degree C palatable and can really extend the season.I'd been told by my 'mechanical' friends that heated grips are easy to install, but my mechanic had a totally different opinion about installing them on a Yamaha. The biggest problem seemed to be getting the original grips off, then fitting the new ones without gaps. It required putting in some chrome spacers to look 'finished.' I'm totally glad I left it to the professionals. The toggle switch was also mounted on the tank near the instruments which added to the effort as well. Had to keep the VStar looking 'pretty.'
