So, how does one put
a smile on one’s frozen face
after spending an hour long bad date with the dentist? (Don’t get me wrong I love Dr. Bob – we have
a long standing relationship and over the past 20 years we’ve come to an
understanding, “Give me the gas and no one gets hurt.”) The answer might
just be: Fire up the VStar (It was cool, there had been heavy frost
this morning, and she’d been neglected for the past 31 days while life got in
the way but she finally came round), endure cool +6 C temps (but don’t mind ‘cause you’ve turned on the
heat), stop at the local Ultramar for a fill up and take her for one last ride this season. (Are you able to read between the lines here? If not, here's a hint - just read the 'red' text - 'Coles Notes Version.')
The ride ended all too soon and the frown turned smile - turned
upside down again as I pulled into the KTek lot and I had to admit, “That’s it for another riding season, take care
of her boys!”
(And just as an aside, thanks for the long lasting Novocain
Dr. Bob – it’s been 7 1/2 hours and I still can’t feel half my face :0)

ReplyDeleteI'm feeling a bit sad and nostalgic too. After all your *Star was part of our family this summer and we have been together for many miles touring the Atlantic Coast . . but she will be as good as new shen she comes out of hibernation next Spring
your *Star is just as sad as you
bob
Riding the Wet Coast
She might be sad to sleep but she'll be happy to finally get those valves adjusted.
DeleteI am hoping I can get my bike out for one or two more rides before winter nap-time, though I suspect winter is going to land hard in the next few days.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed...
So, what are you going to do to keep yourself occupied this winter?
It's always a gamble isn't it? Will there be another weekend or won't there? Will it snow or won't it? So now, I gaze at the photos from summer and dream about where I might go next (or again.)
DeleteBummer you have to put the bike away for winter, but at lest you got to smile (even if a numb smile) and get in a ride before hibernation. And it looks sunny in the picture.
ReplyDeleteLong lasting Novocain is the worst. When having my bridge replaced on my upper teeth my last dentist managed to numb my entire nose and up to my eye too. Doh!
Had to put it away, I'm just not an "ice rider!"
DeleteWhat's with that long lasting stuff anyway - at least I managed not to drool all over the counter at the shop when I took the bike in.
I'm fortunate in that I have a heated garage, but I do have to find a (somewhat) warmer day to give her her last bath of the season before parking.
ReplyDeleteIt's a gamble. If the weather turns warm again I loose, if it snows I win. You always win when it's in your own garage. Hope you get a day to shine it up.
DeleteThose scheduled trips to the dentists… does me want to travel to the other end of the world…
ReplyDeleteI have another month insurance on my Harley and I hope to be able to make use of it. The temperatures however have dramatically dropped since Monday… it had a maximum of 7C today.
I hear you - I'd rather be almost anywhere than at the Dentist Sonja!
Delete6C didn't feel too bad today (with heated grips and heated vest not to mention my long underwear - though all the extra gear feels bulky. It's not the same.
It seems the riding is so short. We wait all year for the gloriousness of hot weather and it is only a few months in reality and winter is so much longer. Stay warm my friend!
ReplyDeleteHow many days to spring Dar?
DeleteI'm nice and warm sitting in front of the fire for now ... and with the remote starter on the SUV!
Karen, the dentist is also my lest favorite place. But nitrous makes all the difference. Almost makes it something to look forward to, no?
ReplyDeleteI'm still hoping for one or two more commutes.
Ah, David ... for a nice garage to store one's own bike in like yours...but with weather like we've had the past couple of days I think I'd be done riding anyway.
DeleteKind of sad. Putting the bike away for the season. And to do it with a half numb face (where's the camera when you need it!).
ReplyDeleteRichard I was sad until the 100k winds started along with the torrential down pouring of rain and the predicted drop in temps. I'm happy to be sitting inside dry and warm (and luckily the numb face was hidden behind a helmet!)
