It Is Time ...

It's that time of year when there are a few brave riders defying the below freezing temperatures to ride the still, snow free roads ... Today I saw one lone rider, his face grimacing, his eyes near frozen from the cold as he road past me at the lake. I admired him but didn't envy him.
But the time is coming when all but the most hardy will give it up for the season. Under the snow filled clouds, the lake's edges are crusty, leaves frozen beneath newly forming ice. The lake is whispering ... "It is time!"
But it is also that time to relive, revisit, rehash and enjoy the season just past. On that note I am lucky to have a guest writer/rider who has agreed to let me post snippets of his epic 38 day "Ride to the Rock" in a series he calls "The Down East Chronicles." Stayed tuned.

  1. Agreed, it is time. My season has been grand and the connection to the next one will be as well.

I'll be watching, sounds like fun!

They must not dress for the cold. I'm been warm enough to smile and wave back at temperatures well below freezing. If I was that miserable, I wouldn't be out there.

  4. Richard I told you we are a much less hardy bunch here ... but you are right, he was wearing only a leather jacket, jeans, half helmet and a thin scarf to keep his face warm - I hope he didn't have far to go!

  5. I am not looking forward to winter, but I sure enjoy seeing the fall/wintery nature pictures. I really like that last pic with the wire fencing in it. Very nice.

  6. As RichardM sez, with the right gear, weather is less of a factor. Looking forward to the reports.

    1. You are absolutely correct. As long as I don't see any snow on the road and the salt has been laid down, I will ride otherwise unconditionally. Heated gear is a must though, and I stay in town.

  7. Jonathan, I agree ... give me the heat (and I don't even ride below freezing). Thanks for dropping by - looks like you hand an awesome cross continental tour via the southern route this summer (bet you weren't thinking heated gear at all!).
