I think this is what summer was meant to be. Just a small town girl on a ride from small town to small town.
Westport ...
A small tourist town with too many things going on and way too much traffic for me today.
But I'd promised to stop by the annual show and shine event
to meet up with Ken and his shiny Lotus.
Though the heat dome has lifted and temperatures of 20 C have me running for my sweater, standing around in full riding gear under the sun still felt too hot. I needed to catch a bit of breeze and headed up Foley Mountain. Instead of stopping at Tims for coffee in Perth I turned right.
Rideau Ferry...
(another small town on the Rideau River) for a bit of a walk along the public dock.
From Rideau Ferry it was on to Smith Falls and a quiet county road that lead me to
Athens...
I haven't been to Athens in a very long time.
Athens is a small town famous for its murals ...
all depicting life a century ago.
Delta.
The Old Mill is now a bakery and museum.
Lyndhurst
BMW Triumphant and I stopped at this same park last fall with a view of the single lane, historic bridge.
On my way home I had to stop in
Seeley's Bay
another small town on the water...
And back in time for a walk down the road to catch the sun setting through the trees over the lake.
It's amazing how many small towns you can find if you head out to nowhere and take 250 km to get back home.
(Thanks Dave: it has happened to me!)
Given the beauty of your neck of the woods it seems a miracle that the area hasn't experienced the same urban sprawl like so many other regions. And what's not to like, there's nothing wrong with small town stuff.
ReplyDeleteVery nice. A beautiful way to spend the day. From that last picture it looks like a pretty nice way to end it too. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt was a beautiful evening with temperatures that were just perfect and a sunset that said no rain tomorrow either.
DeleteThanks for the tour. I'm waiting for the Cable car show this fall. It's almost August, so I guess it's really not that far away. I'm surrounded by small towns and wouldn't want it any other way.
ReplyDeleteErik, big cities are a nice place to visit every once in a while, but I agree surround me by cows and small towns.
DeleteLove the murals, always fun to discover them though I'm most familiar with one mural per town. A mural town is definitely special.
ReplyDeleteCoop, Athens has been famous for its murals for a long time, most buildings in the village have a mural.
DeleteNice looking car show. And I like the murals. Small towns are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThe Westport car show is an annual event with all kinds of makes and models. It draws a large crowd each year. I love how colourful it is.
DeleteAthens' motif is cool...
ReplyDeleteIt is for sure.
DeleteAlways nice to get off the main roads and visit some of the many gems we have in this area. Must visit Athens - never been there.
ReplyDeleteDave you may want to hurry, the murals seem to have become quite faded over the years.
DeleteSonja, the Kingston area seems to be expanding east and west not so much north, lucky for me.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! Looks you had a great day!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kylie and thanks so much for dropping by. It was a lovely day.
