Sometimes When Plans Change.....

I took highway 6, the sunrise, scenic route from Pictou to Moncton. It was a route that followed the shore, but saw little water. Mostly it meandered through farm lands and forest. But that was okay.
Some times when your plans change, you see the most amazing things. The Bay of Fundy is known for the highest tides in the world and those tides have a big impact on rivers that drain into it. Moncton is on the Petitcodiac and I arrived at near low tide ... A deep dry river bed, or so it looked.

Then the tide changed and I watched the tidal bore push the water back up the river. The wave crest was large enough for a surfer. Amazing!
Now, since I'm headed home I have decided to treat myself to hotels (faster pack up in the morning for sure.) The good news here in Moncton, for under $100. I have a beautiful room with a den, kitchenette and a king size bed with not three but five pillows. The bad news is, it's in what you might consider a dodgey end of town ...so I didn't wait for high tide, I wanted to be inside before dark, and the sun was setting!

  1. Amazing what the tide brings in... Surfing on a tidal bore. Brave young man. The incoming flood looks quite powerful.

    1. Okay, we might call him brave ... at least he was smart enough to wear a pfd. The audience on shore loved it.

  2. That water looks pretty muddy, not sure I would be out in it. Changing plans is a given on a motorcycle ride for me and adds to the fun. Keep having fun on the way back home.

    1. Funny you mention the muddiness. I was standing beside a tourist from Illinois and I suggested it might remind him of the muddy Mississippi ... "No way," he said, "the Mississippi isn't that muddy!" I will do my best to keep having fun!

  3. How cool to go surfing up the river. We've often though of putting our canoe in the water up from the ocean and paddling down and seeing if the tide would help up back up river. Haven't been brave enough to try it yet.
