It's been fun exploring the beautiful spots near home ... here are today's scenic tales from the trail. Today included Chaffey's Locks, the Iron Bridge, along the trail and then on to a scenic stop - the Rideau Canal lift locks at Jones Falls. (The section of trail walked today went from the trail access point on Indian Lake Road, I km west of Chaffey's Locks east about 5 k). Lunch, the last one being served for the season, was at The Opinicon Resort.)
And then the blackberry died, damn I wish I hadn't forgotten my camera today - the scenery was spectacular!
I agree, spectacular scenery! I try to never leave home with out my camera. You just never know what will walk out of the woods or when you'll see something interesting.
ReplyDeleteErik, I could have kicked myself when I realized I had forgotten it. At least I had my phone, but it's certainly no substitute.
DeleteKaren;
ReplyDeletethose are great photos ! We don't have any canals here, love to see different scenery from your area. One day perhaps I can see it for myself, Perhaps on a borrowed bicycle instead of hiking. I liked the water, the abandoned car, the colours . . . you have such a photographic eye. Too bad you didn't have a REAL camera with you

Thanks Bob ... I'm trying to become an expert tour guide for my neighborhood in case I'm called on.
DeleteThe Blackberry did fine until the sun went behind a cloud or I needed to zoom in and then ... but at least I had something with me and could get a few snaps to share. I would have come home crying if I hadn't been able to capture the beauty at all.
There were fears with the drought we would have no color here in Missouri, but a some rain and cooler temperatures brought a surprise. Ironically it has turned into one of the best seasons I remember.
ReplyDeleteI agree with bob. You have a great eye. Thanks for the share.

Thanks Keith - I was afraid everything here would just turn brown and fade away after such a dry summer as well - but it seems to be lasting longer and is more vibrant than ever. Who would have guessed. That Mother Nature - she's a fickle woman.
DeleteYou can be my tour guide any time. The Blackberry did a reasonably good job until it did not.
ReplyDeleteI love the 3rd picture. It reminds me of home (Germany home).
Sonja just tell me when ... Would love to show you and Roland around my town.
DeleteAs for the Blackberry, the photos were okay provided I don't want to print any (cause there aren't enough megapixals to print anything larger than a postage stamp...and then it wasn't;)
I think you're protesting too much - great shots and if you hadn't mentioned it no one would know they were taken with a BB.
ReplyDeleteThanks Canajun - the photos (provided I didn't use the zoom) are okay for web posting but I'd never be able to print them - in the size that I like to print things that is. Have you been down to Chaffey's Locks?
DeleteSuch awesome fall beauty. Nice captures with your phone.
ReplyDeleteI guess you'll have to settle for mental pictures of the rest of the day and we'll try to imagine them.
So pretty - thanks for sharing.
It has been an awesome fall for beauty (who would have guessed?) As for the poor little BB I was just asking too much of it - needed to be my phone, my camera, my GPS and my waypoint manager and distance tracker. It almost made it through the day.
DeleteI like the shot with the stream running right next to the building. For some reason, I would expect to see some sort of water wheel there.
ReplyDeleteRichard, that's my fav too. It was indeed a mill in its day and I thought I should see a water wheel as well, but then I noticed there were windows/openings at the water level. The water was rushing into/under the mill so I suspect the wheel that ran the mill was(or maybe still is) inside.
DeleteLovely shots and the BB did you and the views proud. Poor colors were predicted here in MN as well but they were as lovely as ever, interesting though in that they seemed to arrive and leave in hours rather than days.
ReplyDeleteCoop - the colours here have been spectacular but not like usual appearing all at once in a sudden blaze. Instead they've been sporatically popping up here and there in glorious pockets - so it seems like the colour season has lasted longer. Today it was 20 C and the colours have all but gone in anticipation of this weekend's cold and rainy forecast.
DeleteAgreed, beautiful scenery. How wonderful to be walking along those trails swirling the leaves.
