One Trail -Two Sundays ... In November

Mid November and we've had two spectacular, sunny, Sundays in a row here in eastern Ontario. Even though the bike's away the beautiful weather has been a gift; lots of time for meeting with friends, having picnics and exploring more places along the Cataraqui trail ... One trail, two Sundays...
Cataraqui Trail - Sydenham to Harrowsmith run, the old rail bridge crosses above the highway.
The creek runs by the trail at Sydenham.
Passing by a pond along Perth Road.

The Cataraqui Trail heading toward Chaffey's Locks from the Perth Road entrance.
High in the sky - planes are coming and going...
while nature is preparing for sleep here below. The winter birds were chirping with happiness at the surprising warmth of the late fall sun today along the trail.
The perfect day drew to a close in a burst of colour with a rising crescent moon ...
wishing a goodnight.
Could life get any better ... if you can't be riding that is?

  1. Beautiful pictures. Were you out walking or riding a bike? How far does the trail that follows the former railroad line go?

    1. Richard both two wheeled toys have been put away, having expected to see snow by now ... so I was walking - something I love to do. This area is lucky to have a network of trails all built on abandoned rail beds (The K&P, The Rideau and the Cataraqui Trail). All total it looks like these main trails add up to about 538 km and you can walk, run, bike, snowshoe, Xcountry ski and on some travel by ATV or Snowmobile.

  2. Karen:

Wow ! two sunny Sundays in a row. We can't even remember when we have had a sunny Sunday. Only rain out here as far as we can remember and same forecast for weeks to come. Only RAIN.

We are glad to see you had a wonderful time being outdoors and enjoying nature

    1. Bob there are some advantages to not living on the WET coast though we have had our share of rain. Just think of it this way ... soon I'll be burried in snow and you will be laughing, dancing and still singing in the rain.

    1. Thanks Dar ... when you're walking it's a lot less fuss to stop and take a picture, no helmet to take off (Ha ha). We haven't mandated helmets for hiking yet!

  4. Great pictures Karen. The trail looks like such a beautiful place to be.

I am glad you are getting some sunny weather. Almost time to take the canoe to work around here. Really been raining the last few days and just pouring down today and yesterday. Ahhh fall in the PNW.

    1. Here's hoping your sky becomes blue again soon - though one can always use the rain as a (poor) excuse to get the mundane chores caught up, or to stay in one's jammies for an entire weekend.

  5. A lovely place and a warm, sunny autumn day; I never tire of the combination. I can feel the sun on my face and a cooling breeze on my back. It's such a nice time and way to be outside.

    1. Coop - it was a perfect day to be outside, I wish there could be more but I think the landscape will change soon - snow is in the air.

  6. Wonderful photos, Karen. Bob foreclosed it already, we are rained in, and our mood is deep down the drain right now.
Only winter skies bring out those special colours. When I was little I Grandma used to tell me this is because the angels are baking x-mas cookies ;-)

  7. Yeah for the angels ... they must be baking a lot of cookies (do you suppose they make vegan varieties?) The sky has been "cookie cooking," flame coloured almost every night for two weeks ... it is too beautiful. Lucky us!

  8. Great photos, thanks for sharing! It's 61 and sunny in Detroit today, I hope it lasts a while longer!

  9. Thanks Kathleen - the pictures are nothing like yours but I have lots of fun out there.
I only wish this weather could continue ... don't know about Detroit, but the forcast here is snow for the weekend.
