... About Motorcycles and all Things Connected.

You might (or might not) be wondering what motorcyclists do when they can't do motorcycles? Well today, as the first snowflakes of the season began to fall, a few got together and talked about motorcycles and all things connected. You might remember me mentioning the Kingston Motorcycle Club before: that casual group of motorcyclists with no real name, no membership fees and no real agenda. Well, they met again today at the Creekside. One of the group today is a blogger, rider and somewhat of an opinionated historian ... check him out (Progress is fine, but it's gone on too long.)  A couple of the real die hards rode to the meet skirting through the snowflakes. Not me, I walked ... and met these two along the way.
I can’t help thinking how lucky we are here to have the changing seasons. I enjoyed the summer and motorcycle rides and the brilliant colours of fall...but now it’s time for the brown and grey landscape to give way to the splendorous white of snow...Soon!

  1. Nice you could walk and enjoy(?) the cool, blustery day we had today. Also checked out the "Progress" blog. Very cool; I'll have to follow him now.

    1. I was lucky (and did enjoy the walk) because the road along where the horses were is quite protected from the wind (which apparently felt like -10 if it got to you.)

  2. You are the only person I know that loves snow! I lament it and detest it with a passion. I guess because I lived up north for 17 years and was the sole shoveller in our house before we purchased a snowblower and then I was the snowblowerer. I am hoping to coast through winter still riding and keep hoping that we don't see any snow out here in Victoria. It paralyzes the city because the people on the lower Mainland and Island do not and can not drive in it because they haven't got a clue for the most part. They drive like crazy people in the rain and it is even worse in the snow. So I will keep my west coast rain weather over snow any day.

    Lovely pictures! Love the horses.

    1. Dar after the first snowfall here I have to drive with care as I find a lot of folks forget how to drive in it at first. But I'm tired of brown - it's time for earth bling, time to glitter up the world with snow (and besides I love skating.)We have many outdoor rinks in the area.

  3. I would like to be a non-member of this non-club. Nice idea just to meet up without agenda and plans ;-)

Meet and talk about motorcycles, past and future trips or project bikes. Maybe watch moto travel video, plan trips, drool over new models on motorcycle shows... that a few things riders can and will do when they can't ride ;-)

    1. Sonja, there was definitely at lot of project talk as most of the regulars are collectors or as one explained "accidental collectors." Lots of parts talk, magazines shared and stories told. It was a great mix.

  4. Karen:

What! you walked to the Creekside, hope it wasn't a long way away.

From you photos it doesn't look that cold. There's still colour in the trees

I remember one day a few years ago there was a snow warning, so I rode my bike. Lucky it was only very light snow for as it started falling I made my way home right away

    1. Bob, at the time that rider passed me it was snowing (albeit lightly). It was -2 or 3: -10 with the windchill. The colour in the trees is brown (which I've decided isn't a favorite of mine), except of course, the large pine trees which are still green, just waiting to be decorated with snow.

  5. We seem to have two seasons, we go from the dry, brown and grey landscape of summer to the wet, green grass fields of fall all the way through till Spring.

    1. Our seasons are distinct - each with their own blast of colour, even the greens change from spring to summer. Come to think of it each season even seems to have it's own seasonal smell (it's crisp now with a hint of smoke). I enjoy the changes - I could do with a bit longer summer and bit shorter winter, but it is what it is.

  6. "I can’t help thinking how lucky we are here to have the changing seasons."

Bingo. I feel the same way; truly enjoying the changes in most every way.

Like you, I gathered yesterday with riding friends, something that happens in a casual, non-structured way every Saturday morning, winter or summer and our "all things connected" is satisfyingly huge.

  7. The changing sights and smells with the changing seasons (the only thing I regret is that with each season I realize I am another season older.) Right now I can't wait for the brown to be covered with crisp white ... and the outdoor skating rinks to open (we have a beautiful one at our City Hall.)

  8. So people up there forget how to drive in the winter too? Same thing here.
I enjoyed the link to the progress blog, thanks!
I like the changing seasons too. I just wish that winter was a bit shorter and fall a little longer

    1. Erik - drivers are the same everywhere - They forget that winter roads may be slippery. It's so bad here that along the TransCanada there are large flashing signs reminding people "Ice May Be Slippery." (Do you think?) And just when they get used to driving on ice spring comes and they forget motorcycles may be on the road. We need some big flashing signs!

  9. Meeting motorcycles to talk motorcycles and solve the world's problems is what we do every Saturday too. It is nice to get together. Some ride, some don't.

It is a good excuse for a walk and so you could say hello to the horses.

  10. Brandy - this group has a schedule that is just as informal as the agenda...they meet whenever. I think that this Saturday may have been the last day anyone will ride to a meet 'til spring though. It snowed again today. For me, it was a great excuse for a walk (any excuse will do)... and for meeting the handsome locals.

  11. "An opinionated historian?" Is there any other kind? That issue aside, thanks for the link to our blog and keep the rubber side down.

    1. Of course, there is/are no other kind and ... I will do my best on the rubber side.

  12. I did miss the snow last winter. I only missed 5 days riding because of snow. I missed the rains more. We need moisture here. We'll know next May if we had a winter or just gray.

  13. Hope you get some moisture (snow or rain). We've almost caught up to your last year record - we've had 2 days of snow already, nothing that stayed though (possibly because I managed to get the snow tires on the SUV early this year.)

  14. It would be lovely if you could share some pictures of snow VStar for those of us who don't experience snow.

  15. Riding during the warmer weather is much more fun. When its snowing its risky. I really don't like the snow, makes me concentrate more on being careful rather than having fun.
