Life is unpredictable and so is the weather. I could not have predicted the beauty of the full moon rising as I made the commute home from work on Wednesday, or the sudden snow that covered the skim of ice on the creek leaving it cold and dreary looking during last weekend's hike.
November ended like a blast chiller and December began like spring. It hasn't stopped raining for two days. Today's temperature was 20 degrees warmer than Friday. The outdoor ice rink opened behind City Hall but I didn't go skating. I decided to reminisce about the week just past instead. On my way out today I saw one motorcyclist ... I admired him for his stamina, but I was glad I wasn't him today.
Unpredictably - this apple tree grew possibly, according to the sign, because of an apple core thrown out the window of a passing train.
Love the moon picture. The weather here in jolly old London Town is unpredictable too and in fact it has been like that, well, for as long as man has looked up into the sky and thought will it rain today? Living on an island, with the unpredictable North Atlantic on one side and even more unreliable landmass of Europe / Russia on the other, we get our weather from all sorts of different places. Knowing ahead of time if you will be able to ride your motorcycle on a particular day is about as easy as herding cats. Roll on Spring!
ReplyDeleteHere here! We've decided the only reliable weather forcast in this area - look out the window.
DeleteKaren:
ReplyDeleteyou mentioned that it hadn't stopped raining for ONLY 2 Days !!
We haven't stopped for TWENTY days. Except for a handful of days it has been raining since early October. Last weekend was our first sunshine for weeks.
OK, I'm finished now
It was nice for you to be able to get some walking/hiking in, even though it was coolish.
we have snow flurries forecast for next Sunday with a low of -3°c

Bob, with the wind chill on Friday it was -17 without the fun of snow. It's never too cold to walk (usually, with enough hats, scarves and mitts, coats and boots) - just too cold too ride. Enjoy your moderate temps.
DeleteFor once I don't condemn people throwing stuff on a drive by. An apple core thrown on the ground might in fact grow another tree.
ReplyDeleteWon't happen with a coke can or a Timmy's coffee cup.
Sonja - every day I head out for a walk I realize if it weren't for Tims and Coca Cola we would have a lot more pleasant environment for sure! The apple core sign made me smile.
DeleteI like the photo of the rising near full moon. Nicely lined up with the road. I hate that weather. It's better if it just gets cold and stays there, though our current weather may be too much of a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI agree - cold and snow, it's winter, that's the way it should be ... but the moon was spectacular. The long range forcast is for more snow this year than last. We'll see.
DeleteIt seems there are a lot of places experiencing unseasonably warm weather. Climate change at it's finest.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got out for another weekend hike. This way we get to see more pics.
Rain or shine - if I can't ride (even if the brave are still riding) I can walk. I am enjoying exploring the home front on foot.
DeleteWow, what a moon!! How could anyone resist following that to the horizon and beyond?
ReplyDeleteSimply staring at it makes me feel good...thanks.
It was like the road lead to the moon and it was quite a moon - too bad I forgot to zoom in. It was huge even if it seemed so small down the road.
ReplyDeleteOver here in sunny South Africa we have had an assortment of a heat wave last week and cooler, with mostly afternoon showers this week. We are in our summer season so am fortunate to be able to enjoy riding. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhenever I see a full moon it reminds me of the nursery rhyme I used to sing to my daughter
"I see the moon,
The moon sees me
God bless the moon,
And God bless me."
Welcome! The moon reminded me of one of my favorite children's stories as well - "The Moon Was The Best." Hard to believe it's the same moon over South Africa as over Eastern Canada. Looking forward to travelling along with you.

ReplyDeleteI feel sooo bad. When I first looked at that first photo, it just looked like an ordinary photo of a road with a street light at the end. Being in the city we see lots of street lights. Never thought that it would be the moon.
also, I would have thought that the moon would have been larger, as you are 3,000. miles closer than us

That's too funny Bob - 'cause where I live I never think of street lights just moonlight, starlight and the light of high intensity bright little LED flashlight.
DeleteI like the creek photo. I remember the ice forming early in the season and there were air bubbles under it. It could look white like your photo of the creek. Thanks for triggering the memory.

You're welcome Keith! That was actually a dusting of snow on top of ice so thin a mouse would have broken through - only a snowflake or two was light enough.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics! Very cool about the apple tree.. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathleen - I'm throwing apple cores out the window at every chance now!
