The Iceman "Goeth"

The holiday weekend was warm and hopeful but it left us with nothing but a promise as the workday week took us back into winter.
Still, every day, as I walk past the lake ...
I see even the iceman can't fight spring.
Little by little the iceman of the lake, he is receding!
But how long now?

Your first photo is just beautiful but I'm glad we have no Iceman here. We have iceman's brother, rainman.

    1. Bob, cold/rain(ford/chev - same motor) and neither is fun to ride in. Really looking forward to summer.

  2. Nice time series showing the disappearing ice. Time for a webcam...

When does the Star come out of storage?

    1. Thanks Richard, I can't wait 'til I snap the last in the series, "ice all gone!"
When does the Star come out? ... Well, I have ridden at 0C but prefer to start the season at at least 10C and since it's been over half a year I like to take the first ride in ideal conditions until I get my 'sea' legs back.

  3. Nice to see the ice receding. It seems to take forever but it won't be long before we are all complaining of the heat.

    1. I hear you Trobairitz - won't be long 'til I'm whining about the heat (provided the 'weather guys' are wrong, and it doesn't turn out to be a cold, wet summer!) Keep your fingers crossed.

  4. We humans are obsessed with the weather, aren't we? We're like 6 year olds. We impatiently want the good weather, and are always looking at the current weather, comparing it to earlier weather, trying to foretell the weather to come, invoking everything from the law of averages to the Farmer's Almanac.

The Montreal iceman is definitely leaving, ever so slowly, but our snowman doesn't seem to understand that his act is over, SO, SO over.

Today was a cage day. Sigh.

    1. David - I so liked last year's spring. I'm going to have to switch to the Farmer's Almanac since the weather guys have been wrong about 90% of the time in the last 6 months (so much for high tech, there's something to be said about asking a caterpiller how wide his stripes are.)
The weather guys are saying wetter and colder here in the east this summer - I'm keeping my fingers crossed they continue on their loosing streak!

  5. Finally, what had taken him so long? It's about time that everybody gets back on the road. We are back to rain after the wonderful Easter weekend, so it is not pleasant riding weather either, but at least it's not snow...

    1. Sonja - He is moving slow this year ... It seems to have been an extrodinarily long winter and we are still supposed to expect another 9 cm of snow. I think the Star can expect a late awakening.

  6. Agree about the time lapse ice photos, very nice and encouraging??

We've had lots of running water in our valley and I'm amazed that at both its speed and volume that more of the ice in, around and below the rushing water doesn't seem to easily melt. I suppose it's a good lesson about the energy required to change phases at the transition point.

  7. Coop - the ice seems to be thinning ... but I am beginning to think the lake (and spring) is like the proverbial watched pot, as long as I am watching it isn't going to happen.

  8. When I used to dive the car everywhere I never paid attention to the weather, now I frequently check. I Goan when I see rain forecasted and delightful glee hits when it's sunny. Honestly I think I coud be deliriously happy in a pace that was hot and sunny 365. Hopefully you will have nice wether soon. We had a terrible cold and wet summer last year and hope we aren't in for a repeat this year.

    1. Dar - the long range forcast for the east is wet and cold this summer. I'm hoping they're wrong ... Here's hoping you get sunshine this summer too.
