The second arctic vortex has broken and as predicted exploded into yet another winter storm, the kind Canada is supposed to be famous for. Snow squalls and white outs have accounted for numerous multi vehicle accidents on area highways. It’s been the kind of weekend better spent at home but for this reason and that I’ve had to leave the cozy, fire warmed nest not once, but twice today.
My early morning trip to town included a drag race; Hyundai verses doe. Hyundai managed to stop (after due consideration.) Doe crossed road, skidded, fell, recovered and on Bambi legs cleared a 4 foot fence leaving her two companions wondering, “What the heck?” I had no idea they could do 60 kph and I didn’t have a camera!
Second time out, took camera - no deer. I did however manage to capture a little Canadian winter to share with all of you who are suffering from 'snow envy.'
Thank you, Karen. This helps me coping with my homesickness. We've had lots of it in Calgary…
ReplyDeleteGlad I could help Sonja!
DeleteWell my dear, I am not suffering from snow envy! I might miss it a little, but I lived in Northern BC for 13 years and shovelled snow and lived through -75 temps and while a little skiff of the white stuff is cool, any more than that and I am gone to warmer climbs. Pretty eclectic music playing in the background. The birds were pretty. Stay warm?
ReplyDeleteLucky for me I have a son who likes to play in the snow with his toys ... and that music was playing in the background, when I heard it during editing it made me chuckle so I went with it.
DeleteLOL snow envy...Nice video, isn't winter great! That could be northern Wisconsin on a snowy day.
ReplyDeleteThanks Erik. Winter's great as long as you have somebody else to shovel it ... Oh wait, I do! Really, we haven't had a winter like this in a while now, guess we were due. Makes us appreciate summer even more right?
DeleteSnow envy....now there's a concept I've seldom considered.
ReplyDeleteWonder what the percentages are ?? :)
Coop, I'm sure there's someone out there who relishes being knee deep in the white stuff!
Delete"Snow Envy"! I like the fresh powdery snow to the sloppy mess and rain we've been having for the last few days. Even before moving to Alaska, I enjoyed snowy days.
ReplyDeleteRichard, I told Coop that there were folks like you out there! Have to say, I much prefer the fluffy white stuff to the freezing rain stuff too.
DeleteWow Karen, that's a lot of snow. Aren't you just down the road apiece?
ReplyDeleteSeems that Montreal has been ducking all the extremes. We've got snow, but not that much. It's been really cold, but not as cold as the places that hit -30C. And two weeks ago it was like late March or early April.
So, no snow envy here, you can continue to enjoy the piles of snow you've got and I'll continue to lie low and try to duck the rest of the extremes this winter plans for us.
David two weeks ago here it was -41C with wind chill (nothing spring like about it.) How is that you've avoided all of this when you are mere kilometers (in the grand scheme of things) away? The maritimes have suffered as well. You Montreal-ers must just right!
DeleteWe've had the bitter cold, but no snow, and we're only what, an hour north of you? Give me the snow any day, as long as it stays around -5 or so. This -30 and ice is no fun.
ReplyDeleteCanajun - We get cold for 5 days but it lifts momentarily and we get blasted with snow and high winds then are thrown back into the deep freeze. Today started with a balmy-10 and steadily dropped: tomorrow -30 with blowing snow. "Oh, Canada ... snow squalls and all."
Delete1600 motor vehicles involved in weather related crashes this weekend (or so they said on the radio this morn.) Not counting the young man from Ottawa clocked at 168kph on the 401 (in white out conditions) on Sunday, he didn't crash - just lost his car and lic. for 7 days.
Karen:
ReplyDeleteI loved your video. So much snow. We have never been anywhere with that much white stuff. Now we know what you have to endure, just to get a litre of milk
did those birds get the seasons mixed up. I don't know why they are there. Did their parents leave them behind. Make sure you leave them enough food

Riding the Wet Coast
Thanks Bob, no go pro -just a hand held Panasonic on the steering wheel. Today the snow piled itself even deeper, up past my knees. The birds, deer and all manner of wild life are desperate for food these days ... They need me! I'm committed, I've gotta feed them now.
