Once again the little paprika tent has proven herself quite
water resistant, keeping dry inside as the puddles deepened around her.
The rain began early as a light drip, drip,
drip but quickly turned to torrential down pouring.
The dilemma, stay or go. A look at the Accu Weather
site with a “Flash Flood Warning” boldly topping the page
was the determining factor.
Book the campsite one more night (after all, everything
is already wet) and find something to do to pass the day.
Bar Harbor (sponsored by LLBean, bless their little hearts)
runs a free bus service by which you can explore the area. So, it was hop on a
bus and head for Bar Harbor centre. The rain let up even if the fog did not but the
fog gave the real feeling of being at sea for the day.
So it was that my riding buddy Bobskoot and I spent much of
the day wandering around, buying souvenirs and taking pictures
while rain delayed in Bar Harbor.
PS: It doesn't matter how wet you get, you will always feel wetter by the sea.

The fog really adds a lot of character to the pictures. I really like the second one of the boat with four masts.
ReplyDeleteAnd, yes, the salt is hydroscopic so once its in your clothes, it keeps the moisture in so you never feel really dry. Nice lobster...
Richard I knew I could on you to explain the science of the feeling. The fog at the top of Cadillac would have wasted a trip, but at the harbor it did add character.
DeleteVstar, that looks like a nice picturesque place to get stuck in - great photos!
ReplyDeleteIt's touristy but if you need a spot to stay dry, might as well be in a shop or ketchy cafe serving dynamite coffee.
DeleteI love that pic of the 4-master too! If it's any consolation, the weather is pretty ordinary here too.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd prefer your BLT rather than the lobster of Bob's. Either way it doesn't look like you guys are going to starve...
Andrew for all Bob's not eating posts, I've never eaten so much on a trip before - definitely not going hungry. As for the lobster ... Bob has eaten enough of the nasty little crustaceans now that I'm sure I noticed a claw sprouting.
Deletei was thinking the same as Richard. The fog really gives it a special feeling, and the four masted boat looks great in it.
ReplyDeleteDid you go to Acadia? The rain sounds positively drenching and I'm glad you were able to stay dry.
The rain and fog put a real damper on touring Acadia National Park. I had hoped to take Bob to Thunder Hole and the top of the mountain .... but no point this time.
DeleteThere isn't any more rain in our forecast but we got heavy rain yesterday with some flooding, here's hoping the dryer weather rolls your way today.
ReplyDeleteDavid it was dry today but the fog has rolled into N.B. as I knew it would ... Garmin Dan was having a melt down today - somebody changed the highways and forgot to tell him. So much for the latest updated maps (and I'm pretty sure they didn't do it overnight!)
DeleteI didn't spend much time in downtown Bar Harbor and now I don't have to. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for bringing that wet, salty air west.
Normally I wouldn't spend much time there either (unless I needed some tourist ketch) ... but the shops and restaurants were a lot dryer than the park today. I am happy to have been able to show you the town ;)
DeleteLots of great photos! I particularly like the "Lobster and Seal Watching" boat.
ReplyDeleteLobster watching tours? :)
Also, dry tents are the best tents. I love hearing rain falling on my tent, but don't so much love waking up damp.
I was wondering the same thing, how do you go lobster watching? Maybe they are watching the fishing boads harvesting the critters...
DeleteGreat photos today!
ReplyDeleteMakes me think I should try and paint them (but that's not likely to happen!
LOL Leslie
You could ... and it would be more beautiful than the original. I'll print one off for you to keep on file.
DeleteSure the blue sky against the ocean is pretty, but there is just something about the foggy shores that adds something.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you two will have a drier day today.
Trobairitz - much dryer today though the tents were packed wet. Hopefully they will dry overnight .
