"When The Skies Of November Turn Gloomy."

The VStar is put away for the season and just in time as it would seem, "The gales of November" have come early. The words of Lightfoot's iconic song sprang to mind as I waited on shore along side a former navy sailor watching the Wolfe Islander battle the winds and waves. He said, "This is nothing." (I guess it's all relative.) She docked safely and nearly on time but I heard it was a rough crossing.

  1. It might be next to nothing for the sailor, but for me that looks like a choppy sea alright.

    1. If I'd been a-board I'd have had my eye on the life jackets for sure! Give me dry, un-moving, flat land!

  2. But just think of all the power generated by those wind turbines...

    1. Richard, when I downloaded the photos I was surprised that I could see the wind turbines on the island which is just over 5km across the water. (The New Panasonic has a 20X optical zoom.) They may have had to shut down the turbines because the wind was too strong.

  3. I feel for you having to put the bike away for winter - dunno if I could handle that!

Great song - often comes on when I'm cruising along on the Connie...

    1. Andrew I know I couldn't handle riding through snow drifts of up to 3 feet or more ... but I think I could survive quite nicely living in an area where snow isn't an issue, except I would miss the changing seasons. I've always loved Lightfoot's music.

  4. Great song and a perfect pick for the weather this week. We weren't hit as badly as you wind-wise, but we still lost a few trees. (After last summer strong winds make me REAL nervous.)

  5. I've a few widow-maker limbs still just hanging on from last summer's wind storms - can't believe they're still up there, but am not parking anywhere near them. Amazingly, didn't loose anything this time.

  6. What a storm going through there. Kudos for the crew for docking safely on the Wolfe Islander.

Time to snuggle in and drink coffee and tea in front of the fire.

We need more Gordon Lightfoot music in this world. I have that song and others on my iPod. He is a favorite.I have a sunset picture I was thinking of posting with one of his lyrics.

    1. Brandy, you've got me wallowing nostalgic ... is it Sundown, Daylight Katie, Ribbon of darkness? .... I haven't thought of those tunes in decades. I think I may even have most of them on warped vinyl.
We do need more Lightfoot. Time to download them to the "POD." Thanks for a great idea!

  7. Karen:

Here on the Coast, BC Ferries will not run if the wind is over a certain kmH, 60 I think. We've got to take that Wolfe Island ferry next time into Vermont, just not during a storm

We may not be getting wind out here, but we had to scrape our windows again

    1. Bob, our little ferries (we have little ones and big ones) were all shut down due to high winds and traffic over the international bridge was restricted but the Wolfe Islander kept on going!
As far as getting to Vermont ... we'll have to take a few ferries before we hit Vermont. The Wolfe Islander docks on Canadian soil (Wolfe Island,) from there you can ride to the Horne's Ferry to NY (in season) then ride to Plattsburgh to catch one of three ferries to Vermont ... but all are lovely rides (in season!) I highly recommend the ride
