2013 The Eastside Story Day 7: So Much Rain

So much rain - all night long it rained and the forecast was grim for today. I made coffee with my little methanol cook stove (first time). I debated, "Should I stay or should I go?" The weather forecast called for chance of rain and thunderstorms by 5. I took my time. I did the laundry. Then I decided to go for it.
Once again, I was on the by ways. I'd read a tip (Bobskoot: Riding the WetCoast) about drying your tent by fastening it on the back of the bike instead of packing it. Genius! It was dry .... right up until the rain started to fall again, five hours from where I had made a reservation for the night. (Great reason not to make reservations, then you have no reservations about stopping when you should stop!)
So much for the forecast. Five hours of riding in heavy rain. I switched back to the freeway to take an hour off the ETA.
And in the end ... as usual, just as I arrived at Natural Bridge the rain stopped.
I had booked a cabin (not what I expected!) I had a chance to walk to the 'natural bridge' and eat dinner before the rain began again. Glad to be inside to dry out!

    1. Richard, Natural Bridge is about 40 mi north of Roanoke VA just off I-81. It is a natural feature in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It really is a place that is all about the entrance to the hiking trail to see the natural bridge itself.
