2013 The Eastside Story Day 27: From St. Andre to Rain

The day got off to a beautiful start. With comfortable temperatures and sunny skies Bobskoot and I left St. Andre continuing west on 132 toward Quebec City. I had to stop to see if the Indian Maiden was still in St-Jean. She was. You might recognize her from Memories of 2010, she's a bit more faded than she used to be, her bouquet almost hides her from view, but she still holds her head in the same haughty pose.
It didn't take long to reach the old city of Quebec (even with a few mis-turns). It's a challenging city to navigate by motorcycle because many of the streets do not allow motorcycles. It was a busy tourist day and parking was at a premium and cost $7 per hour.

When in Quebec ... eat Poutine of course. Bobskoot had never tasted cheese curd let alone Poutine (or fruit smoothies or beaver tails) but that gap in his education has now been filled (with all three.)
The sky began to change and the decision was made to press on to Montreal to meet (and stay with) Scoot Commute and his gracious wife Susan rather than camp in the rain again. We almost made it. My son Justin asked me today if I'd seen any sun yet? I told him two days ... I have to revise that to a day and a half. The rain started just before Trois Rivieres and lasted an hour or so. Then just when I thought I'd been freeway dried it started to rain again. Oh well, I'm dry tonight ... and I'll be home tomorrow (rain or shine!)

  1. I'm glad you filled those gaps in his food education. Not many things more comforting than poutine. He had never had a fruit smoothie? I think he was pulling your leg…

We used to have one place in town that carried cheese curds and sold a passable version of poutine but the place burned down.

Only one more day until this years adventure is done. How sad…

  2. I could do with the veggie version of the poutine. One either likes it or hates it. I am surely one of its fans.

Thanks for sharing these pics from Quebec. I haven't been there in a long time and it brings back good memories.

  3. Nice to see the lovely old City again. Bob isn't the only one with food gaps.

  4. Karen:

I've never ordered poutine before although I love cheese. I have had regular smoothies before, but not blended fruit smoothies.

and . . . beavertails. Yes, first time for that

it had been a long time since I had been to Quebec City. think around 1973 but never made it to Old Town. Nice to walk about for an hour or two to soak in the ambiance

  5. Wow almost four weeks on the road.

So good of you to give Bobskoot a foodie education. I bet he enjoyed everything.

Love that picture with the shutters and baskets of flowers (third one down) so pretty.

  6. Never had poutine - but it looks excellent! I do love cheese curds.

So... Quebec has streets... that don't allow motorcycles?

Well, no need to go there (crossing item off list...). ;)

    But, really, looks fantastic!

    1. You've gotta try poutine - it is as good as it looks. Quebec is a fantastic city to explore (better by foot though.)
