Summer 2013: One Last, 'Long Day' Ride

With the final weekend of summer 2013 staring me in the face I took to the road for one last ‘long day,’ Friday, take it while you can day, great day for a ride day ... and I headed out under a shroud of fog to meet Ron and Joanna: our destination, Bancroft.
Ron has been riding ‘forever,’ admitting that he has been riding since before it was necessary to have a license to ride a motorcycle and Joanna has just started riding this season. Joanna rides a VStar so I knew we’d hit it off.
Our first stop, the local farmer's market. I bought radishes as big as apples (sorry no pictures, I ate them already), Ron bought jam.
Ron and Joanna are both Port Perry area artists and our plan was to visit the Bancroft Art Gallery to catch a glimpse of artist Gretel Boose show of sculpture and paintings and of course to have lunch (whoops, ate that too!)
Home ... to Bancroft and back, with a little bit of the road less traveled thrown in - just over 400 km. The last long day ride for summer. Think I will sleep in tomorrow.

  1. No, really? Is the time for long distance riding over already? It's a bit sad.

I look at your map and think, oh yeah, I want to be there for the Fall Foliage. I am sure you've seen it many times but I have just seen it once...

    1. Sonja, my days are numbered. Four more sleeps and it's back to work with most weekends being taken up by preparing for the next week. It would be a beautiful fall colors ride though...you've got me thinking!

  2. Looks like a fun day out!

So... you're going to have some long day rides this fall, right?

    1. It was a fun day ... and there will be some 'longish' fall day rides, but the days are getting shorter with every morning - sigh!

  3. Karen:

I'm glad you managed to get out for a long day ride before the weather turns. Hope it wasn't a scorcher. But does it have to be the "last ride" ? Many more weekends before summer is officially over.

    1. It turned out to be a bit of a scorcher (felt good.) It's not the last ride, just the last official long ride of summer 2013. My summer is officially over in about 79 hours. But luckily I downloaded all my summer memories to enjoy and gaze at all winter long because No, dnfmcy. (How cryptic!)

  4. It looks like a wonderful end to the summer riding season. But I guess the bills need to be paid somehow. Too bad "work" gets in the way of all of our other activities...

Thank you for no radish pictures as I don't like them anyway, but no lunch photos?

Hopefully, I'll get in at least one longish ride this summer...

    1. Richard, it was a perfect way to end the summer, "officially." The radishes were ginormous, good thing I didn't show them to you and I ate my lunch so fast you would have hardly had time to know it was there.
You've got a few days of summer left - hope you have the weather to get out and enjoy it (I still have fall, but think you may pop back into winter much quicker than the rest of us.)
