I Love It When Lunch Takes All Day

An email from Ron (the PEI photo bomber) ... 'Lunch in the county?' So what if I was just there two weeks ago, I'm always game for lunch in the county. I never tire of the ride along the lake, the Glenora ferry (where there's always another biker to talk to) and a chance to explore a different café on a different road. And so today was another lunch (I love it when lunch takes all day) in Prince Edward County.

I arrived at the meeting place early, found a shady parking spot and wandered into The Miller House Café. Sipping a perfect cappuccino on the hillside patio, I watched the little ferries scurrying back and forth across the bay far below me. With Lake On The Mountain on one side, the Bay of Quinte on the other I sat and soaked in the sun enjoying the wait.
Ron arrived just as I finished my coffee. We rode east on Country Road 7 to Bongards Crossroad and over to the County Cider Company for lunch. The County Cider Company is supposedly famous for their thin crust pizza. I can't verify that as it wasn't meant to be. Today, they had no pizza and had no idea when the supply truck would arrive so it was a tasting platter and a salad. The restaurant/cider company is housed in a converted barn. This time the patio overlooked luscious vineyards with Lake Ontario in the (not so) distance, but I loved the old stones and flowers best.

The County Cider Company is also famous for their ciders ... not for the coffee they don't serve so we headed out looking for another café completing the peninsula loop on County Road 8, back to County Road 7 past Lake on the Mountain again then down to the Loyalist Parkway toward Picton. Not wanting to stop in the busy little tourist town we skirted around the back side and headed toward Bloomfield, with a stop at Hagerman's Farm Market.

And finally we found coffee at Saylor House Café. We found the café in a quiet little garden, down an alley off the main street in the village of Bloomfield.  They had an incredible selection of baked goodies and a mouth-watering lunch menu too. (I may just have to return for another lunch!)
Lunch (and the day) almost over, I waved goodbye to Ron. Not wanting to desensitize myself to the lakeside ride I decided to head home along a different route. I rode west a bit further on 33 before switching to Highway 62 north. At Belleville I turned east to meander home again along highway 2. I love being on holiday!

  5. Ah, this is beautiful. I love your country side.
And they care for the wellness of their ducks, obviously. Where else would you find a pool for waterfowl...

  6. Susan and I went the Liyalist Parway route once, a long time ago. As usual for us, on the way to Toronto.

It sure is nice. The ferry was an unexpected treat.

Love the colours and texture in the photo with the Adirondack chairs.

Photo #2, I recognize that gravel parking lot. Wished I were there. I need more time in your area, one day was not enough . . .
