Touring on a VStar 650 Custom: “I haven't a clue as to how my story will end. But that's all right. When you set out on a journey and night covers the road, you don't conclude the road has vanished. And how else could we discover the stars?" (unknown)

Not A Cloud In The Sky ... And The Toughest 2 Minutes In Sports
Sunday morning arrived ... not a cloud in the sky. It was just too nice to stay at home so I headed north on the Star. This trip took me through Smiths Falls, North Gower, Kars, Osgoode, Greely, 20 km of construction and a few disagreements with Garmin Dan but I finally arrived at Place D'Orleans shopping centre - the back way. Why? To watch my son and the South Frontenac Combat Challenge Team compete in day two of the Scott Fire Fit Challenge.
Riding the trails might have been my toughest 6 hours in sports, but the Combat Challenge is definitely the, "Toughest 2 minutes in sports." 371 km round trip ... and that's my kid dragging Rescue Randy across the finish line. (Some of you might recognize Randy, his other cousin Randy spent some time skulking around in my shed with the Star.)

That's a tough, tough competition. You had a great day (and excuse) for a ride though.
ReplyDeleteAny excuse is a good excuse when it's a perfect day. And a tough competition for sure. I think it might take me five minutes just to get to the top of the tower (without carrying the hose) and they do the entire course in under 2.
DeleteA good excuse for a drive. Firefighters sure have to be in good shape.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great excuse. I think the competition probably came about as a fun way for firefighters to train and keep in shape.
DeleteI was wondering why you had the dummy stashed away in the shed... Not a real common item. I remember seeing some of these competitions on TV. Pretty grueling!
ReplyDeleteRandy stayed with us for a few months, resting - while he was waiting for a permanent home =D (Honestly, he freaked me out each time I walked into the shed! Then I'd realize, oh yea ... it's just Randy.)
DeleteHoly Moly, and they do this fully geared up.
ReplyDeleteFully geared and in temps of +27 C. I complain that my riding digs are heavy on a hot day: I can't even lift the fire gear! These men and women are in shape.
DeleteAh, the trials my desk job spares me. Jumping to conclusions much easier than draggin' Randy :D
ReplyDeleteYou said it David!
