"Ahhhhhhhhhh!" she said ...

"Ahhhhhhh" she said, "so that's what it feels like to ride a motorcycle." She had almost forgotten. She had been afraid; afraid she'd forgotten how, afraid that the riding pants would no longer fit ... afraid of so many things. But it was all good. It was a stellar day on the same old bike, in the same old pants! Life is good.
Went for a short 257 km ride today to break in the new rear tire and cover the new windscreen with bugs. (You can hardly see that windscreen in the photo - it's so clear. Who knew they were supposed to be so 'see through.') Met Art Rider at Lake On The Mountain for lunch. He knows Prince Edward County like the back of his hand so after lunch I just followed. He pulled over at this small light house attached to an even smaller marine museum so I could get one photo to mark my first ride of the 2015 season. Felt good! Perfect weather for riding.

    1. Thanks Andrew, it was a long hibernation this year - or so it feels.

  2. Welcome back on the road. After this last winter it seems especially enjoyable just being back on 2 wheels.

    1. Wow Richard, you guys finish way ahead of us. Still a month and a half to go down here. As soon as "SCHOOLS OUT FOR SUMMER" I'll be on the road (Just don't know where I'm going yet.) This was supposed to be the year of the rock, but plans change.

  4. Welcome back on the road, Karen. It had been a long winter, and you and your bike deserve all the miles you can get from now on until the season is over. Any vacation plans?

    1. Thanks Sonja, it has felt like a long winter. As far as the plans go ... I'll go somewhere but I don't know where. Too bad there weren't some familiar moto bloggers to meet up with somewhere ;o)

  5. Feels good doesn't it! I made it down to Upper NY state for 3 days riding and 2 nights of camping. First night was darn chilly although I was cozy in the tent. I spent first night near Ithica and 2nd night in Letchworth State Park. I've read all your trips but cant recall if you've been to either area on your trips. If you haven't I recommend them for a short one. Beautiful scenery. hope to see you on the road

    1. It does feel good Kevin (though I'm always worried!) It sounds like you had an awesome 3 day trip. The finger Lakes area is beautiful. Last year I skipped Ithica and headed over and up along Seneca Lake (probably trying to doddle home.) I spent the night in Geneva. But I know I have been to Ithica, just can't exactly remember when. Have never been to Letchworth State Park though.I will have to mark it on the to go list!

  6. Riding for the first time after a winter break always feels a little odd. What better way to start a new riding season than with a "short" 257 km ride! I love it.

  7. Gary it's hard to get very far when you don't start 'til 10 then you meander along the lake, wait half an hour for a ferry, stop for an hour and half lunch and after that visit a winery chatting with folks for 45 minutes. First time out, lots of breaks are good ... got to ease into it gently. (Distance is all relative isn't it? ... When your country is 7600 km across 257 km doesn't seem to take you very far.)

    1. I thought 257 km was a long way for a first ride of the year. Mine was a lot less than that and I agree easing into it is a good thing. A relaxed ride like your sounds is a perfect start to the riding season.

    2. Gary the 'actual' first ride was 30 km - from the shop to home. After that, if I survive I'm ready for the 'real' first ride. The actual first ride doesn't count! My new riding mantra - relaxed! I like it: no alarms, no deadlines, no agendas (most of the time.)

  8. About time, huh? Last year our (mine anyway) started late, this year we got an early boost. Have a safe and your best yet season Karen!

    1. For sure. Thought the time was never going to come here this year (later than ever) but then we flipped from winter right into summer. Crazy!

  9. Yay! Glad your back on 2. I always have the same feelings, particularly about gear and a long winter of stuffing my face with baked goodies and carbs. I actually had my first real long rip this past weekend and it was heavenly! Hopefully you will get out there again soon. Where are you travelling this summer?

    1. Dar - where to go? I'm always pulled. I love the East Coast and expect I'll start there ... but I miss the west so maybe I'll head that way after.

  12. Nice to be riding for sure. Took Black Betty for a little ride today, over to a friend's place for a little help mounting the new saddlebags. Four hands and two heads got the job done in ten minutes. I still have a lot of learning to do before I'll feel at home on that cruiser.
