I couldn't possibly top that experience but then I headed to Montague and there I found an honest to goodness drive in restaurant. I drove by it and had to turn around to check it out for lunch. Gillis has been in business serving burgers, shakes and fries for 50 years and yes, they take your order at the car. Turning around meant I had to pass the same flagger at the construction point 4 times but it was worth it for the icecream sundae with a cherry on top.
Touring on a VStar 650 Custom: “I haven't a clue as to how my story will end. But that's all right. When you set out on a journey and night covers the road, you don't conclude the road has vanished. And how else could we discover the stars?" (unknown)

Montague And The Mounted Police
This morning, just as I was organizing myself for a little tour down to Montague, I looked up to see a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer sauntering through the campground. He was kind enough to allow a photograph, posing with the Star. I only noticed as they walked away that the horse had a maple leaf design haircut on its butt. There were just too many questions churning around in my mind at that time to think about taking a photo.

Today's ride 221 km taking in part of both Green Gables Shore drive and the Points East Coastal drive. I'm a day behind but there's still one more trip on the Island to make; tomorrow Souris.

Karen, that's a Very Fine looking sundae! Are you going out to the island from Souris?
ReplyDeleteCoop I' not going to Iles-de-la-Madeleine that's a whole other trip, but I hear it has become quite the motorcycle destination.
DeleteNice photo of the RCMP officer. I didn't know they still used horses. A day behind? That implies some sort of schedule...
ReplyDeleteYes, they still use horses. I guess riding a horse to patrol campgrounds makes more sense, given the terrain than a car. It was quite a sight though. And as far as a schedule, I thought I would be leaving today but a friend arrived yesterday so I am staying an extra day to do a ride with him.
DeleteA maple leaf design cut into the hair on a mounted policeman's horse's butt..... what could be more Canadian than that?
ReplyDeleteTrue North, Strong and Free! Eh?
