Even though I consider my last little adventure to be quite a short trip I'm amazed at how long it has taken me to get back into the groove of being a home body. Maybe it was the 13 ½ hour ride home or maybe it has was going from 12C to 32C in one day ... but I’ve not gone off the grid, I’ve just been flying under the radar.
Incredible how many weeds and how much dust can appear in just 15 days, but I think, finally, just maybe, I’ve got it under control ... well almost.
The Star is sleeping soundly, enjoying a well-deserved rest after performing flawlessly once again in her 6th year - not counting the hick up we encountered before we started, (but that has long been forgiven.) We’ve been in the midst of a heat wave so it’s probably good to rest up a bit, but dam July is just about over!
Tonight, I’m sitting on my front porch (OMG, how old does that make me feel) by the light of the Off Mosquito Foggers and a near full moon. I sat here last night reading Sash’s (Rude Biker Chick) new autobiography. Sash has asked if I would post a review. I’m honored and will sit here putting my thoughts together until I hear the coyotes, then I’m gone!
Look what bloomed while I was away. I love my front porch ... until I hear the coyotes start playing.
Do you have a rocking chair on the front porch? If so, I'd be concerned. But also if its old living room furniture...
ReplyDeleteIf not, no worries.
No rocking chair, at least not yet ... but there was a recliner I had my eye on at the end of a driveway just down the road (oh, oh ... )
ReplyDeleteIt would be a fine arrangement if the blasted yard work and house work would just go on vacation when the motorcyclists go out riding. Once again, maybe the best solution is not to return, is just to keep riding: Chores can't remind one that they are being neglected if one isn't around to be reminded. (Confucius?)
ReplyDeleteI like your logic!
DeleteThe first picture made me think, "What a great porch!" Beautiful yard and greenery.
ReplyDeleteIt is an absolutely (in my opinion) beautiful garden and porch. Several years ago, my youngest son designed, excavated, poured concrete and put in the stone walkway with a tear drop shape garden in the centre. Last year he rebuilt the porch deck. My problem is that everything grows too well in the space (must be the love he added to it) and I lack the killer instinct to whack things back. I've noticed lately it's getting out of control. The only thing that doesn't grow is what you can't see, the patch of grass that I was standing on to take the photo. I've planted it over and over again. One small patch, it's driving me crazy.
DeleteBegrudge not a little comfort....its when you don't want to leave that comfort....that you need to worry. One of my mentors in the Army once told me: "I don't need to practice to be miserable".
ReplyDeleteGreat advice ... I still love to leave, but I'm glad I still like to come home.
DeleteMaybe you should get one of those Adirondack chairs. Looks like it could be perfectly right for your porch.
ReplyDeleteSonja ... have you ever sat in an Adirondack chair. So comfortable, curved just right to relax in ... but I've run out of room!
DeleteIs that a Stargazer Lily? My favorite ones of the lily family.
ReplyDeleteHeat waves are no fun, especially when there is weeding to do.
Trobairitz it is a Stargazer. Not only is it beautiful, but smells wonderful too I need to add more.
DeleteI wish I could say that the weeding was done on all sides of the house, I'm afraid I might need a backhoe to finish the job ... okay, that might be a bit extreme ... no I need a backhoe for part of it (Weird house, 7 sides for weeding!)
Heat wave or no, your garden looks like a place to cool and relax. Might just be the best way to enjoy late July??
ReplyDeleteCoop it can be bit warm on the porch in a heat wave because the house blocks the breeze; under the maple tree or the willow is always cooler ... but I still like the porch because I can look at the flowers.
DeleteWhat's the concern about coyotes? I love sitting and listening to them howling at dusk. And there's no way they'd come within 100' of you.
ReplyDeleteCanajun ... you're talking to a woman who, out for a lovely afternoon walk in the back forty met a bold coyote, face to face, less than 100' away. He sat on his haunches, unintimidated and unmoving in the middle of my path. He looked at me, I looked at him. He turned his attention to the dog off having fun chasing ducks in the pond, I started yelling and waving my arms. He looked back at me (I'm positive I saw his eyebrow arch) then back at the dog. He didn't seem concerned that I was there. Then casually he stood up and sauntered slowly away, crossing the creek heading back to the woods probably to meet the rest of his gang! I like to listen to their howling and yelping and playing too ... as long as I'm inside! Call me irrational (you wouldn't be the first!!! Don't even get me started on my crazy bear story!) You see Canajun, I'm not a very fast runner so I expect I'd always be the first one to be eaten!
DeletePorch sitting doesn't make you old! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou sure? ;0D
