(This shot taken through the lens of my sunglasses.) |
Today, with no need to run from the clouds, whatever they might bring … I went cloud gazing. I saw my mother’s face and it quickly turned into a little girl. I saw a mermaid playing with a beach ball and a dragon and a giant sea turtle. I watched an entire battle story unfold until, no one the victor, it ascended like a puff of smoke into Joni Mitchell's feather canyon. (And I also saw a lot of turkeys ready to be stuffed and roasted, then again I was hungry?)
Today, “they only blocked the sun.” Today that was a good thing. I heard a jet somewhere in the clouds and I wondered what they looked like from their side.
Already I was wishing I was back on the road, even if it was only to run from the clouds ... but then my granddaughter asked me if I liked seeing the pictures in the clouds and I'm glad I'm home too.
Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
(Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell)
Where ever you are ... I hope the clouds did not get in your way today, but instead you had a chance to enjoy their pictures.
Safe Travels.
Nice photos! That is one of my favorite songs...
ReplyDeleteThanks Richard. How could this not be a favorite song! (Man, did I just show my age?)
DeleteLovely Post, very much enjoyed this one! If you weren't already a Cloud Master after the past week you certainly are now.
ReplyDeleteWhere in your world did Joni come from....now? I've been stuck on Hejira the last few days and that may be due to a recent UK Ecommerce acquisition of a live Joni/James concert CD from over there. My 20's seem only a few days ago lately......
May your near future clouds be the pretty kind.
Coop when most of my friends in high school were heading to the heavy side of rock I moved to the "dark side" ... toward Joni Mitchell, J.T., Dylan, Neil Young and Lightfoot. The stories they told spoke to me much more than the volume and blur of rock. Hejira (journey) how appropriate. I still enjoy a good story and a good journey. (After that I even went darker ... I went Country, shhh don't tell anyone!) I don't know about you but for me it feels so odd to look in the mirror and not see the 20 year old I feel inside?
DeleteI remember cloud watching too, and I still see dragons, faces, animals, even castles. Clouds are beautiful... except when they spill their loads on the motorcyclist.
ReplyDeleteSummer time's still on, will you be back on the road for another trip?
Sonja, it's amazing how your view of clouds can change if you're not worried about where you will lay your head at the end of the day, and how dry or wet you might be by then. There are lots of great rides around home and there's still time left to explore them plus I hear there are some moto bloggers going to visit my hood ... Perhaps they will allow me to tag along with them for a bit on some of the lovely roads, before I have to wave goodbye and head for home ;)
DeleteAbsolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dar.
DeleteKaren, I have thought lately about the things kids often do in a heartbeat that adults mostly never do. Lying on bare ground is one. Watching clouds for more than a fleeting moment is another. Great post. Joni is having a hard time lately, health wise.
ReplyDeleteDavid it may be that she has been in the news of late that brought the song to mind ... in retirement you will have time to play again! One needs to play in order to stay young at heart.
DeleteGreat post Karen. No need to stop and smell the roses when you can stop and cloud gaze instead.
ReplyDeleteFunny you should mention smelling roses ... the east coast was fragrant with the scent of wild rose (had its share of clouds too!)
DeleteLove that song! And looking at clouds! Although I tend not to lay down in the grass to do so, more likely floating in the lake, or just relaxing on the deck. What I have never been able to master is getting a decent cloud shot - I especially like the sunglasses one, will have to try that.
ReplyDeleteFloating is a very good way to look at clouds too! (I happened to notice that the clouds looked so much more dramatic with my polarized sunglasses on so I thought I'd try putting them on the camera, who knew?)
ReplyDeleteLovely pics. Yes, I used to lay in the grass and look at the clouds. I should do that again. Soon. :-)
ReplyDeleteKathy - it's time to feel like a kid again - soon!
