The 2.99 Solution

You might know already, but I have few complaints about my little VStar. Then again you might know that the biggest gripe I do have is checking the oil: having to stand the bike up straight, get down on my hands and knees (with a flashlight) to look in the little round oil glass window. It’s a two-person job without a center stand. (Grievance #2, the bike is too heavy for me to hold up straight with one hand whilst on my knees.)
Do you see where I’m going with this?

You got it … I was browsing through a Princess Auto flyer and there it was, the 2.99 solution. A Titan telescoping inspection mirror. Why haven’t I thought of this before?
Next problem, finding a flashlight that’s a little more portable and still does the job.

  1. Another suggestion. While straddling the bike to hold it vertical, hold the flashlight next to your eye aimed at the mirror. That will illuminate the sight glass by reflecting off the mirror. This way you can just use a mini-flashlight

  2. Karen, I know what you're referring to re: your "little VStar" but you're not taking enough credit. I just got home from 100 miles on my "little VStar" and had to push it up over the garage apron and back in to its parking spot. Little isn't the word I'd use and I've got something else to compare it to.

It sounds like you're coming up with an improved procedure; they are a challenge without center stands.

    1. Coop she’s little in stature, but I agree, not in weight ... my other grievance.

  4. Good solution for a design issue....is a centerstand in your future? They are quite handy.

    1. No Dom. I’ve dealt with the issue for 8 years now and I don’t want the extra weight of a center stand that I probably couldn’t get the bike on anyway because of its weight. I think the mirror is it.

  5. ' and a wedge.A wedge to put under the stand to get the bike up near vertical.
I have the same problem diferent critter. It is a lot easier to pull the bike down onto the wedge than try to push it up to vertical. Don
